More than 32.1 million passengers by August 2024
The summer of 2024, which ran from June 1 to August 31, has been rated as the best in history in terms of passenger, operations and cargo volume, with a total of 93.4 million passengers during this period, 8.5% more than in the previous summer. Likewise, 753,441 operations were handled, 7.9% more than in 2023, and 313,131 tons of cargo were transported, an increase of 22%.
In addition, all-time records were broken at several airports, including Barcelona-El Prat, Valencia, Ibiza, and Menorca, among others, reinforcing the strength of Spain’s post-pandemic air traffic recovery.
In terms of cargo operations, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport handled the most cargo, with 60,851 tons, 24.9% more than in August 2023. Other airports such as Zaragoza and Barcelona-El Prat also recorded notable increases in cargo transport.
