ISTAC publishes 34% of tourists who travelled to the Canary Islands during the third quarter of 2024 did not consider another destination when choosing their trip.

According to the Tourist Expenditure Survey, produced quarterly by the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC), 34% of tourists who travelled to the Canary Islands during the third quarter of 2024 did not consider another destination when choosing their trip. The main destinations considered by the rest of the tourists were: another Canary Islands destination, Greece, another destination in the rest of Spain and Portugal.

92.8% of the visits were for holidays, leisure and entertainment, 1.3% for business and professional reasons, and 5.9% for other personal reasons such as visiting family or friends, education, health reasons.

Tourists stayed mainly in collective establishments (hotels 58.8%, flats 17.3%) and also in private accommodation, such as rented accommodation or rooms from a private individual (14%), friends‘ or relatives’ accommodation, or their own accommodation or free home exchange (8%).

31.2% of tourists who visited the Canary Islands in the third quarter of 2024 did so on an all-inclusive basis. Residents of Belgium were the leaders in this type of trip with 37% compared to 12% of residents of Ireland, who were the least frequent all-inclusive travellers.

The average stay of tourists is 9.2 days. The longest average stay was made by residents in Italy, with 11.44 days, while residents in the rest of Spain had the shortest average stay, with 7.50 days.

64% of tourists had previously visited the Canary Islands. The average rating for overall satisfaction with the trip to the Canary Islands was 8.50.
