Spain Welcomes Over 5 Million International Tourists in February 2025

International tourism in Spain continues its upward trend: in February alone, the country welcomed 5.4 million international visitors, a 7.7% increase compared to the same month in 2024.

The first two months of 2025 reflect strong momentum, with nearly 10.5 million tourists visiting Spain — a 6.9% rise from the same period last year.

Main Source Countries

The United Kingdom remained the top source of visitors, contributing one million tourists in February, a 6.8% increase year-on-year. France followed with 719,366 visitors (+15.9%) and Germany with 616,766 (+4.1%).

From January to February, the UK led with close to 1.9 million visitors (+5.3%), followed by France with nearly 1.4 million (+14.1%) and Germany with around 1.2 million (+1.0%).

Accommodation Preferences and Trip Characteristics

Market-based accommodation remained the most popular choice, growing 4.9% compared to the previous year. Within this category, hotel stays increased by 4.2%, and rental housing grew by 2.7%. Non-market accommodation (such as staying with relatives or friends) saw a notable 19.0% increase.

Most tourists stayed for four to seven nights — nearly 2.6 million people — which represented a 5.6% increase. The number of same-day visitors (those who did not stay overnight) rose sharply by 15.8%, while those with stays of more than 15 nights increased by 2.6%.

More than 4.2 million tourists travelled without a package tour in February (+9.0%), while nearly 1.2 million used a package (+3.0%).

Most Visited Autonomous Communities

The Canary Islands were the most popular destination in February, attracting 26.8% of all international tourists. They were followed by Catalonia (21.1%) and Andalusia (14.4%).

Compared to February 2024, tourist numbers increased by 2.6% in the Canary Islands, 7.8% in Catalonia, and 6.9% in Andalusia.

From January to February, the Canary Islands received 2.8 million visitors (+2.8%), Catalonia 2.2 million (+10.0%), and Andalusia 1.5 million (+5.4%).
