The hotel sector in Spain continues to show positive momentum, with overnight stays increasing by 7.3% in April compared to the same month in 2024, surpassing 29 million stays. This growth was driven mainly by Spanish residents, whose overnight stays rose by 13%, while those by non-residents increased by 4.5%.
Due to the calendar shift of Easter, which fell in April in 2025 (compared to March in 2024), it’s useful to assess March and April together. Combined, overnight stays decreased slightly by 0.4% year-on-year (a 1.4% drop among residents and a 0.1% increase among non-residents).
From a profitability standpoint, the average daily rate (ADR) rose to €116.6 per occupied room, which represents a 5.6% increase compared to April 2024. Meanwhile, the revenue per available room (RevPAR) reached €78.1, up by 7.2%.
Hotel prices also increased, as the Hotel Price Index (HPI) rose by 6.9% year-on-year. The largest price increase was seen in two- and three-star silver establishments (10.7%), while the Principality of Asturias recorded the highest regional price growth (15.7%).
In terms of destinations, Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community were the top choices for Spanish travelers. For foreign visitors, Canary Islands, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands led the way. Mallorca was the most visited tourist area, with over 3.4 million overnight stays.
Among source markets, the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 23.1% and 17.9% of all non-resident overnight stays, respectively. France, the United States, and Italy followed, with 9.0%, 5.2%, and 4.4%.
The occupancy rate stood at 59.6%, a 5.2% annual increase. Balearic Islands recorded the highest overall occupancy (71.9%), while Lanzarote led among tourist areas with 75.8% occupancy. The highest occupancy on weekends was in Costa de Gipuzkoa (80.6%), with Sant Llorenç des Cardassar topping the list for individual locations (85.9%).
These figures confirm a steady and healthy recovery in Spain’s hotel sector, driven by growing demand, rising prices, and improved performance indicators.
