EU tourist accommodation overnight stays increase by 7% in the first quarter of 2024
According to Eurostat data, there were 452.6 million overnight stays in tourist accommodation in the European Union during the first quarter of 2024. This figure represents a 7% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
The increase in overnight stays has been mainly driven by foreign visitors, who represent 11% more than in the first quarter of 2023. The countries that have experienced the largest increases in foreign visitor overnight stays are Cyprus (+23%), Croatia (+22%), Malta and Luxembourg (both +21%).
In contrast, foreign guests only accounted for one fifth of overnight stays in Poland, Romania and Germany (19%, 20% and 20% respectively).
