Main results
Overnight stays in hotel establishments increased by 5.4% in June as compared with the same month in 2023.
The Hotel Price Index rose by 7.8% in annual rate.
Hotels invoiced 122.1 euros on average per occupied room, 8.1% more than in the same month of the previous year.
Overnight stays in hotel establishments increased by 5.4% in June with respect to the same month in 2023, exceeding 38.2 million.
Those of travellers resident in Spain grew by 0.3% and those of non-residents by 8.0%.
During the first six months of 2024, overnight stays increased by 7.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. Those of travellers resident in Spain increased by 0.9% and those of non-residents by 11.2%.
Destinations
Andalucía, Cataluña and Comunidad Valenciana were the main destinations of travellers resident in Spain in June, with 21.4%, 15.6% and 13.0% of total overnight stays, respectively.
The main destinations for non-residents were the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and the Canary Islands, with 33.6%, 19.3% and 18.3% of the total, respectively.
By tourist areas, Majorca recorded the highest number of overnight stays, with more than 7.2 million. The tourist destinations with the highest number of overnight stays were Barcelona, Madrid and Calvià.
Overnight stays by country of origin of the travellers
Travellers from the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 28.7% and 17.9%, respectively, of the total number of overnight stays by non-residents in June.
Overnight stays by travellers from France, the United States and the Netherlands (the following source markets) accounted for 6.9%, 5.2% and 4.7% of the total, respectively.
Hotel occupancy
In June, 65.5% of the available bedplaces were filled, an annual increase of 3.7%. The weekend occupancy rate by bedplaces rose by 3.0% to 71.1%.
Illes Balears presented the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces during June (81.1%).
By tourist areas, Isla de Mallorca had the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces (82.2%). Palma Calvià had the highest weekend occupancy rate (84.9%).
The tourist spot with the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces was Alcúdia (84.3%). Llucmayor had the highest weekend occupancy (92.0%).
Hotel prices
The Hotel Price Index rose by 7.8% in June compared to the same month in 2023.
By Autonomous Community and Autonomous City, the highest increase was recorded in Comunidad de Madrid (18.3%). On the other hand, the autonomous city of Melilla showed the lowest increase (-2.5%).
By category, the highest price increase was in one-star silver establishments (8.3%).
Profitability of the Hotel Sector
The average hotel turnover per occupied room (ADR) was 122.1 euros in June, an increase of 8.1% compared to the same month in 2023.
The average daily revenue per available room (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy of these establishments, reached 89.9 euros, an increase of 11.6%.
By category, the ADR was 283.0 euros for five-star hotels, 128.0 euros for four-star hotels and 96.8 euros for three-star hotels. The RevPAR for these same categories was 203.0, 103.5 and 73.7 euros, respectively.
The tourist spot with the highest ADR and RevPAR was Marbella, with 234.5 and 188.2 euros, respectively.
Revisions and updating of data
The INE has today updated the data for June 2023 of the Hotel Occupancy Survey, the Hotel Price Index and the Hotel Sector Profitability Indicators. All the results of this operation are available in INEBase.
