Third quarter 2024

In the third quarter of 2024, residents in Spain made 60.4 million trips, 0.2% less than in the same period of 2023. Domestic trips fell by 2.2%, while trips abroad increased by 15.5%.

Leisure travel fell by 2%, although visits to family and friends grew by 3.8%. On the other hand, business trips decreased by 3.2%, while those motivated by other reasons rose by 4.7%.

In terms of destinations, Andalusia led as the main national destination (18.7%), followed by Catalonia (11.9%) and the Valencia Region (11.1%). By origin, residents in the Community of Madrid were the most frequent travellers, with 1,647 trips per 1,000 inhabitants.

Total expenditure reached 24,544.4 million euros, 4.2% more than in 2023. The average daily expenditure was 62 euros, with trips abroad standing out with 98 euros per day compared to 53 in domestic destinations. The Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and the Community of Madrid recorded the highest average daily expenditure.

August saw the highest number of trips (24.9 million), with an average duration of 7.9 nights. However, excursions fell by 19.1%, totalling 51.3 million in the quarter.
