The total spending by international tourists visiting Spain in October reached 11.898 billion euros, marking a notable 15.5% increase compared to the same month in 2023.
Average Spending
The average spending per tourist was 1,327 euros, registering a 5.5% annual increase. Meanwhile, the average daily spending rose by 2.9%, reaching 191 euros.
Origin Countries
The main spending countries in October were:
- United Kingdom: Represented 17.9% of the total spending, with a 10.4% annual increase.
- Germany: Accounted for 14.0%, with a growth of 23.5%.
- France: Contributed 7.7%, with an increase of 16.3%.
In the first ten months of 2024, the United Kingdom led cumulative spending with 18.3% of the total, followed by Germany (12.3%) and France (8.9%).
Spending Categories
The main spending category in October was international transport (not included in tour packages), accounting for 20.8% of the total spending and growing 16.7% compared to October 2023.
Other notable categories included:
- Activities: Represented 19.4% of the total, with an 11.3% increase.
- Tour packages: Accounted for 18.3%, with a growth of 17.2%.
Type of Accommodation, Travel Organization, and Purpose
- 65.5% of total spending in October was made by tourists staying in hotel accommodations, with an annual growth of 12.6%.
- Spending in non-market accommodations (such as staying with family or friends) increased by 5.8%.
- Tourists who did not book a tour package increased their spending by 15.5%, while spending by those who booked tour packages rose by 15.4%.
Regarding the purpose of travel, tourists visiting Spain for leisure generated 85.3% of total spending, an increase of 16.7% compared to October 2023.
Autonomous Communities
The autonomous communities with the highest share of tourist spending in October were:
- Balearic Islands: 17.9% of total spending, with a 22.1% annual increase.
- Catalonia: 17.6%, with a growth of 9.7%.
- Canary Islands: 15.9%, with an increase of 7.7%.
From January to October 2024, the regions with the highest cumulative spending were:
- Catalonia: 19.0% of the total.
- Balearic Islands: 17.6%.
- Canary Islands: 16.6%.
Conclusion
These figures reflect the sustained growth of international tourism in Spain, with significant increases in total spending and average spending per tourist.
