
Spain continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s top travel destinations. In January 2025, the country welcomed 5.1 million international tourists, marking a 6.1% increase compared to the same month in 2024.
Hotel accommodation remained the most popular choice, growing by 5.4%, while rental housing saw a 6.8% increase. The majority of visitors stayed between four and seven nights, totaling 2.2 million tourists. Notably, the number of day-trippers rose by 24.9%, and long-term stays (over 15 nights) increased by 9.2%.
The Canary Islands were the top destination, attracting 26.9% of all tourists, followed by Catalonia (21.3%) and the Community of Madrid (13.9%). In terms of growth, Catalonia and Madrid saw the highest increases, with 12.4% and 15.7% more visitors, respectively.
This strong start to the year reaffirms Spain’s tourism strength, driven by its diverse offerings and the growing interest of international travelers.
