Spain received 9.6 million international tourists in September, 9.1% more than in the same month of 2023.

In the first nine months of 2024 the number of tourists visiting Spain increased by 10.9% and exceeded 73.9 million. This is the highest figure in the INE’s Frontur series.
The United Kingdom was the main country of residence, with more than 2.0 million tourists and an increase of 5.3% compared to September 2023. From Germany came 1.3 million (up 1.1%) and from France 1.1 million (up 14.3%).
The main countries of origin in the first nine months of the year were the United Kingdom (with more than 14.7 million and an increase of 7.4%), France (with almost 10.3 million and an increase of 10.5%) and Germany (with almost 9.4 million, an increase of 8.0%).

Primary mode of accommodation and other trip characteristics

The number of tourists using market accommodation as their main mode of accommodation increased by 7.1% in annual rate. Within this type, hotel accommodation grew by 4.6% and rented accommodation by 32.8%, while non-market accommodation increased by 23.0%.
The length of stay of the majority of tourists was four to seven nights, with almost 4.7 million and an annual increase of 8.7%. The number of visitors increased by 0.6% among non-overnight visitors (excursionists), while it decreased by 0.8% among tourists with a longer duration of stay (more than 15 nights).

Almost 6.9 million tourists travelled without a package tour in September, an increase of 10.9%. More than 2.7 million package tourists arrived, an increase of 4.8%.

Autonomous Communities of main destination

Illes Balears was the main destination for tourists in September, with 22.4% of the total. It was followed by Catalonia (21.2%) and Andalusia (15.0%).

The Balearic Islands received 4.2% more tourists than in September 2023. The number of tourists visiting Catalonia increased by 11.8% and 10.3% more came to Andalusia.
In the first nine months of 2024 the communities that received the most tourists were Catalonia (15.8 million and an increase of 10.0% compared to the same period of 2023), Illes Balears (13.3 million and an increase of 5.9%) and the Canary Islands (11.0 million, 10.0% more).
