Tourist Spending in the Canary Islands Increases by 10% in Q4 2024

Tourism continues to drive the economy of the Canary Islands. According to data from the Tourist Expenditure Survey published by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), visitors to the archipelago spent a total of €6.175 billion during the fourth quarter of 2024, representing a 10% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The average daily expenditure per tourist reached €176.07, surpassing the €168.73 recorded in Q4 2023. Swiss tourists were the highest spenders, with €206.89 per day, while visitors from Italy and Spain spent less than €155 per day on average.

Among the key source markets, travelers from the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Nordic countries contributed the most to the total expenditure. Geographically, Tenerife and Gran Canaria accounted for 6.7 out of every 10 euros spent in the Canary Islands, capturing 38.4% and 28.8% of total spending, respectively.

These figures highlight the continued growth of the sector and reinforce the Canary Islands as a key tourism destination in Europe.
