Growth in Available Vacation Rentals
In December 2024, the Canary Islands recorded 50,398 available vacation rental properties, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This data comes from the Experimental Statistics on Vacation Rentals published by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
Tenerife hosts the majority of these properties, accounting for 41% of the total supply. Gran Canaria follows with 22%, while Lanzarote and Fuerteventura hold 16.3% and 13.1%, respectively.
The total number of available vacation rental accommodations now exceeds 213,284 places, representing an 8.7% increase compared to December 2023.
High Occupancy Rates
During December 2024, a total of 48,771 vacation rentals received at least one reservation, indicating an occupancy rate of 96.77% among the properties listed on digital booking platforms.

The aim of this experimental statistical report is to provide key monthly indicators on the capacity, occupancy, and profitability of vacation rental properties available on online platforms.
As these figures are comparable to traditional hotel and non-hotel accommodation statistics, they offer a broader understanding of the Canary Islands’ tourism market.
This study includes data on vacation rentals operating within the region and listed on digital platforms. These properties are classified under code 55.2 of the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) 2009.
The continued growth in vacation rental supply highlights the evolving nature of tourism in the Canary Islands, reinforcing the importance of monitoring market trends for future policy and business decisions.
