Spain has started the year with tourism booming. According to the latest INE figures, in March the country received a total of 6.3 million international tourists<\/strong>, representing a 21% increase<\/strong> compared to the same month in 2023.<\/p>

United Kingdom, Germany and France lead growth<\/strong><\/p>

In terms of tourist origin, the United Kingdom<\/strong> remains the main issuing market, with more than 1.2 million visitors and a 13.3% increase. They are followed by Germany<\/strong>, with 909,031 tourists (28.7% more) and France<\/strong>, with 791,648 tourists (31.8% more).<\/p>

The first three months of the year<\/strong> accumulate a total of 16.1 million tourists<\/strong>, which represents a 17.7% increase<\/strong> compared to the same period in 2023. In this case, the United Kingdom<\/strong>, Germany<\/strong> and France<\/strong> also position themselves as the main issuing countries, with close to 3 million, 2.1 million and 2 million tourists, respectively.<\/p>

Accommodation and travel characteristics<\/strong><\/p>

Market accommodation<\/strong> is experiencing significant growth, with a 23.3% increase compared to March 2023. Within this category, hotel accommodation<\/strong> grows by 17.5% and rental housing<\/strong> by 55.8%. On the other hand, non-market accommodation<\/strong> increases by 11.8%.<\/p>

The average stay<\/strong> for tourists is between four and seven nights<\/strong>, with a total of almost 3.2 million visitors and an annual increase of 28.8%. The 18.6% increase among day trippers<\/strong> (those who do not stay overnight) and the 16.7% increase among tourists with longer stays<\/strong> (more than 15 nights) stand out.<\/p>

Almost half of tourists travel without a package tour<\/strong><\/p>

In terms of travel mode, 4.8 million tourists<\/strong> chose to travel without a package tour<\/strong> in March, representing an 18.7% increase. Package tours<\/strong> also experienced an increase, with 1.6 million tourists<\/strong> and a 28.4% growth.<\/p>

Canary Islands, Catalonia and Andalusia, favorite destinations<\/strong><\/p>

The Canary Islands<\/strong> is positioned as the main destination<\/strong>, with 24.3% of the total number of tourists in March. They are followed by Catalonia<\/strong> (21.2%) and Andalusia<\/strong> (15.1%).<\/p>

Compared to March 2023, the Canary Islands<\/strong> has received 18.9% more tourists, Catalonia<\/strong> 27.9% more and Andalusia<\/strong> 19.8% more.<\/p>

The figures confirm the recovery of the tourism sector in Spain<\/strong> and augur a good forecast for the rest of the year. The diversification of issuing markets, the commitment to quality tourism and the wide range of destinations and experiences are some of the factors contributing to the success of the sector.<\/p>
