data-end=\"287\">In the fourth quarter of 2024, residents in Spain made a total of <strong data-start=\"190\" data-end=\"212\">38.4 million trips<\/strong>, representing a <strong data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"246\">7.9% decrease<\/strong> compared to the same period last year.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"289\" data-end=\"397\">Domestic travel saw a sharper decline (<strong data-start=\"328\" data-end=\"337\">-8.8%<\/strong>), while trips abroad only slightly decreased (<strong data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"393\">-0.5%<\/strong>).<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"441\"><strong data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"439\">Reasons for travel and accommodation<\/strong><\/p><ul data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"839\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"507\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"444\" data-end=\"507\"><strong data-start=\"444\" data-end=\"481\">Leisure, recreation, and vacation<\/strong> trips fell by <strong data-start=\"496\" data-end=\"504\">9.9%<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"508\" data-end=\"565\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"565\"><strong data-start=\"510\" data-end=\"542\">Visits to family and friends<\/strong> dropped by <strong data-start=\"554\" data-end=\"562\">6.9%<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"566\" data-end=\"687\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"568\" data-end=\"687\"><strong data-start=\"568\" data-end=\"603\">Business and professional trips<\/strong> decreased by <strong data-start=\"617\" data-end=\"626\">14.2%<\/strong>, while trips for <strong data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"661\">other reasons<\/strong> increased by <strong data-start=\"675\" data-end=\"684\">13.9%<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"839\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"690\" data-end=\"839\">For domestic trips, staying at <strong data-start=\"721\" data-end=\"749\">family or friends\u2019 homes<\/strong> declined by <strong data-start=\"762\" data-end=\"771\">13.6%<\/strong>, while for international trips, <strong data-start=\"804\" data-end=\"819\">hotel stays<\/strong> fell by <strong data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"836\">2.3%<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"\" data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"1111\"><strong data-start=\"841\" data-end=\"889\">Top destinations and most frequent travelers<\/strong><br data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"892\" \/>The most visited regions were <strong data-start=\"922\" data-end=\"943\">Andalusia (15.8%)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"966\">Catalonia (11.9%)<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"989\">Madrid (9.9%)<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"993\" \/>Regarding the origin of trips, Madrid led with <strong data-start=\"1040\" data-end=\"1047\">17%<\/strong>, followed by Catalonia (<strong data-start=\"1072\" data-end=\"1081\">16.4%<\/strong>) and Andalusia (<strong data-start=\"1098\" data-end=\"1107\">16.1%<\/strong>).<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1113\" data-end=\"1305\">When adjusting for population size, the most frequent travelers were residents of the <strong data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1251\">Basque Country (936 trips per 1,000 inhabitants)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1270\">Navarre (924)<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1276\" data-end=\"1302\">Castile and Le\u00f3n (918)<\/strong>.<\/p><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1439\"><strong data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1326\">Travel spending<\/strong><br data-start=\"1326\" data-end=\"1329\" \/>Total travel expenditure in the fourth quarter amounted to <strong data-start=\"1388\" data-end=\"1406\">\u20ac12.15 billion<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1426\">3.1% decline<\/strong> from 2023.<\/p><ul data-start=\"1440\" data-end=\"1818\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1440\" data-end=\"1550\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1442\" data-end=\"1550\">Spending on domestic trips fell by <strong data-start=\"1477\" data-end=\"1485\">5.7%<\/strong>, while spending on international travel increased by <strong data-start=\"1539\" data-end=\"1547\">1.5%<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1551\" data-end=\"1668\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1601\">The <strong data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1586\">average daily expenditure<\/strong> was <strong data-start=\"1591\" data-end=\"1598\">\u20ac95<\/strong>:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1668\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1635\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1635\"><strong data-start=\"1606\" data-end=\"1613\">\u20ac76<\/strong> for domestic trips.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1638\" data-end=\"1668\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1668\"><strong data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1648\">\u20ac153<\/strong> for trips abroad.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1818\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1671\" data-end=\"1818\">By destination, the highest daily expenditures were recorded in <strong data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1756\">Madrid (\u20ac110\/day)<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1785\">Balearic Islands (\u20ac104)<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1791\" data-end=\"1815\">Canary Islands (\u20ac93)<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1947\"><strong data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1837\">Annual trends<\/strong><br data-start=\"1837\" data-end=\"1840\" \/>Throughout <strong data-start=\"1851\" data-end=\"1859\">2024<\/strong>, Spanish residents made <strong data-start=\"1884\" data-end=\"1907\">184.4 million trips<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"1911\" data-end=\"1927\">0.8% decline<\/strong> compared to 2023.<\/p><ul data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"2129\"><li class=\"\" data-start=\"1948\" data-end=\"2035\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"1950\" data-end=\"2035\">Domestic travel decreased by <strong data-start=\"1979\" data-end=\"1987\">2.3%<\/strong>, while international trips grew by <strong data-start=\"2023\" data-end=\"2032\">12.1%<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><li class=\"\" data-start=\"2036\" data-end=\"2129\"><p class=\"\" data-start=\"2038\" data-end=\"2129\">Total travel expenditure for the year increased by <strong data-start=\"2089\" data-end=\"2097\">5.9%<\/strong>, reaching <strong data-start=\"2108\" data-end=\"2126\">\u20ac62.23 billion<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p><em><span style=\"font-weight:
